Notifications and preferences
The bell, live updates, the notification preferences matrix, and presence.
The bell
The bell sits at the bottom of the navigation rail with an unread badge (it caps at 99+). Its popover groups notifications into Today and Earlier; unread rows carry a coral bar. Click a row to mark it read, or Mark all read; the footer links to the activity log.
The bell is live. It holds a server-sent event stream open, so new notifications and count changes arrive without a refresh; a footer line shows the stream's state ("Real-time stream connected", "Stream reconnecting…") and the connection retries itself when it drops.

Notification preferences
Settings, Personal, Notifications holds your own matrix. Two delivery channels, Desktop (a banner in the corner of your screen) and Email, against five event rows:
| Event | Desktop default | Email default |
|---|---|---|
| Activity in all unassigned conversations | off | off |
| Activity in anything assigned to you | off | on |
| Activity in any of your teams | off | off |
| Activity in conversations assigned to other teams or teammates | off | off |
| Any mentions of you | off | on |
A separate Browser notifications section controls tab-title alerts, with toggles for Assigned to you (on by default) and Unassigned (off); changes there apply on the next refresh.
Preferences are personal: every member sets their own, at any role.

Presence and availability
Your presence is set from the user menu at the bottom of the rail: Online, Away or Offline, with a matching dot on your avatar. Signing in sets you online, a heartbeat keeps you that way while the tab is open, and signing out sets you offline.
Presence is not just a light. Team round-robin assignment skips members who are offline or have marked themselves unavailable, so going offline really does stop tickets landing on you; if nobody on a team is eligible, the assignment is refused rather than dropped on an absent person.
